By 7:30 a.m. the Olympic Torch Support Vehicles were getting into position, fuelling up, and waiting...

Wawa's Torch Run began with the torch lighting at 8:18, and a few brief words of welcome by Mayor Howard Whent.
Our Member of Parliament, Mike Brown also spoke briefly, wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and what a wonderful way to celebrate with the Olympic Torch Run. Mike noted that the Olympic Torch would have it's longest stay in any province's riding, our riding ('cause it's the biggest)!
After the speeches, the goomee was unveiled for the crowd to admire. And with the formalities over, the first runner hit the street amid applause from the crowd.

A total of six torch bearers carried the torch up Mission Road, down Broadway Avenue to turn on Mackey Street, ending its "tour" on Churchill Avenue by the edge of Michipicoten High School.
