Mike Brown, MPP Algoma – Manitoulin presented Michipicoten Rod and Gun Club Inc.’ President Dave Dorey today with a cheque for $3,900.00 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for improvements to the club’s indoor shooting range.

“We are very pleased to receive the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation” said Dorey.  “These funds will be used to purchase and install wall and roof baffles in the indoor range to comply with the requirements of the Chief Firearms Office”.

On July 18, 2008 the Chief Firearms Office of Ontario inspected the Michipicoten Rod and Gun Club’s ranges to determine compliance with the Canadian Firearms Centre’s “Range Design and Construction Guidelines”.  As a result of this inspection, a number of deficiencies were noted resulting in the modified use or closure of some of the ranges.

“Our club executive is committed to ensuring the continued safe operation of the Michipicoten Rod and Gun Club’s ranges and our club has worked hard to move forward to address these issues” said Dorey.  “In cooperation with municipal and provincial government agencies, we are moving forward with additional land acquisition, retrofitting of the indoor range and are designing changes to the outdoor ranges to comply with the guidelines”.

“We will require the full support of the club membership, government agencies and sponsors in order to be successful and complete these alterations” said Dorey.

Members are urged to attend the club’s next monthly meeting on May 6, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the range clubhouse for more information.
